17. Australian Exchange Student.
This Blog is a recollection of my time in the United Kingdom varying from big expeditions in the UK to small details and differences noticed whilst over here beginning with the flight overseas.- SISEP Exchange 2015
Myself and 2 other Brisbanites arrived at the Brisbane airport at 3:00pm each greeting each other formally as we got ready to depart for our long journey.
Our plane departed Brisbane Airport at 5:00pm (our time) as we gracefully made our way to the Melbourne. Frustration was briefly expressed by Aaron Helmore as the people in front of him reclined their chairs immediately after each takeoff and didn't move afterwards.
2 brief hours after we left we had arrived in Melbourne where we met up with all the other scouts from around Australia and proceeded through customs taking many photos of the Christmas environment surrounding us in the airport. As we waited for the plane an Asian man approached us in uniform and said how he was a Ex-scout and asked if he could take a photo with us all. We jumped on the plane soon after ready for the next 24 hours to be in the air. Once again the people in front of us reclined their chair. Aaron Dodds was moved to the back of the plane and was replaced with a really sweet Lebanese university student who too was an ex-scout and she was telling us all about how scouts is over in Lebanon. Astounded by the area, we looked over into Dubai, sightseeing what we could. We momentarily saw the Burj Kahlifa (worlds tallest building) when we glanced out the window with its orange reflection from the sun.
We stayed in Dubai for a very brief period of time, barely seeing what the land has to offer. Once we got off the plane the UK students said farewell to the Denmark students. But once again we were off out n about on the plane again ready for another 10 hour plane trip to our final destination. For the majority of this time I slept on the plane so was completely unaware of what was happening around me,
I finally woke up to the skidding of the landing gear as we had finally arrived into Heathrow airport. All four of us landed and met up in the arrivals lounge. We said farewell to the Lebanese lady as she walked into the distance. We all walked into arrivals where we saw the UK Foster families and the Co-ordinators. This is where i Met Paul, my new father for the next 7 weeks. He took me to his mansion in The Forrest of Dean about 2 1/2 hours from the Airport. Here we discussed many of the similarities and differences between our continents. Road rules and landscaping were the main points of conversation. I walked into their nice home where i was greeted by Pauls wife Zoe, their eldest son Tom, Sam, Will, and Joseph. We sat down and had some dinner whilst i talked alot about Aus and learnt about their land.
